There are not many games like Pokemon on PC that fully capture the magic of the games themselves. However, these six games are valiant efforts. In fact, the first game on this list is preferred by some.
The player’s main goal in this retro-inspired turn-based RPG called Siralim is to collect over 700 monsters and use their unique skills and abilities in an infinite amount of battles that this indie has to offer.
We say infinite because all of the dungeons in Siralim 3 are randomly generated with 15 different tilesets that the game uses.
With a deep crafting system to create equipment and spells for your team of monsters, Siralim literally has no end in sight and is the definition of a monster-taming RPG.
Siralim 3 is also making its way to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4, so if you find yourself wanting to take this immense RPG on the go, you’ll have your chance soon enough.

Digimon Masters
Digimon Masters is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game that’s been around on PC for a few years now, giving fans of the popular franchise a way to communicate with other players while immersing themselves in a super deep real-time combat system.
The MMO features hundreds of Digimon to collect and raise on your own, raid bosses and dungeons to explore with friends, quests to complete, and outfits to play around with.
For a free to play online game, Digimon Masters is no slouch in giving players a deep Digimon experience such as this that isn’t really available for any other platform.
Digimon fans everywhere should look for this one on Steam, as it might end up being the next MMO that you sink 500+ hours into – who knows?

Minimon
Minimon may still be in the early access phase of development, but this charming indie title looks to be one of the most promising games that take inspiration from Pokemon.
Being able to be played in single-player mode or with a second person using split-screen, Minimon tasks you with getting a team of formidable monsters together to then meet and duel thousands of other players.
You can customize your Monster Hunter till your heart’s content, find over 300 monsters all over the world, and go on quests to gain experience and unlock tons of cool stuff. Minimon is now available on Steam and is currently in early access.

Pixelmon (Minecraft Mod)
This immense Minecraft mod takes everything you know about Pokemon and throws it into the sandbox world full of blocky versions of each monster.
This mod has faithfully recreated iconic locales seen throughout the mainline Pokemon series such as Pokemon Centers, Professor Oak’s Lab, Pokemon Gyms, and much much more.
You can catch Pokemon in the wild using Pokeballs, go on adventures with your party, and even battle against other trainers in traditional turn-based fights.
It’s almost as if you’re playing an official Pokemon MMO that fans have been wanting for a long time, but just fan-made.
If you really like playing Minecraft and are also a fan of Pokemon, why not jump into this mod and live out your dream of being a Pokemon trainer, but in the creative toolbox that is Minecraft.

Temtem
Temtem is currently in closed alpha for Kickstarter backers only. Still though,
we just wanted to speak on it to make sure that it sits on everybody’s radar because while Temtem is a straight-up Pokemon clone, the art style, creature designs, and overall aesthetic look superb and might make any Pokemon fan ooh and ahh.
While you explore the dynamic open world that Temtem offers players, you’ll be encountering different types of Pokem…umm we mean Temtem, and using them for battle against other trainers.
Unlike Pokemon, you have a home base that you go back and forth from which you can decorate and design to show off to your other friends.
Speaking of friends, since the game is essentially an MMO, you can join friends on quests of their own and seek their help for your missions as well.
Temtem is due to release on Steam sometime in 2019 and we can’t wait to see more of this one as its release comes closer.

World of Final Fantasy
World of Final Fantasy originally came out back in 2016 and was the ultimate crossover and a celebration of iconic Final Fantasy characters that proved to be a fun, charming, and deep turn-based RPG.
Now available on Switch and other platforms as ‘Maxima,’ this updated version features some bonus content while providing tons of mirage-catching fun to be had.
Enemies you encounter in the field can all be “captured” similarly to the Pokemon series.
You must meet certain requirements before attempting to grab it for your own team, but once you do, you can train and potentially evolve your mirages into stronger beings.
If you’re the type of person who loves filling out monster diary’s and compendiums, then you’ll find no shortage of monsters to collect and train in World of Final Fantasy.
Also, watching chibi-fied versions of famous monsters throughout the series stacking on top one another during battle is one of the cutest things ever.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Online
We’re not saying it’s a classic, but it’s an official Pokémon game that’s officially available on PC. Battle against your rival Trainers in the free-to-play Pokémon Trading Card Game Online. While there are a wide range of popular online card games out there, the charming Pokémon artwork and the characters we all know and love make this one stand out from the pack.
If that doesn’t quite satisfy your creature-collecting urges, we’re sadly not expecting Pokémon on Steam any time soon, but there are many alternatives to Pokémon available on PC and all of them are built on the core components of collection and cute(ish) beasts.
Slime Rancher
In a galaxy far, far away is a world where sentient slimes roam free. In Slime Rancher, you inherit a slime ranch, so it’s now your responsibility to get it up and running by collecting every type of slime. They come in all manner of colours and varieties, each bringing with it varying properties – and associated challenges. You can even go vegan, if you want…
In Pokémon, you have to complete your Pokédex as you gradually enslave an increasingly alarming number of sentient creatures and force them to fight each other. In Slime Rancher, however, there’s the quite wonderfully named Slimepedia to keep track of your livestock. There are 90 colourful slimes to collect, including pink slimes, rock slimes, puddle slimes, fire slimes… you get the picture.
World Of Final Fantasy
This spin-off sees you explore the world of Grymoire, collecting Mirages – cute versions of classic Final Fantasy creatures. That mechanic reminds us of… something. Oh yeah: Pokémon. To wield your captured Mirages in battle, you have to organise them into strategic stacks – and here’s where further similarities with Nintendo’s series reveal themselves.
The stacking system in World of Final Fantasy is an utterly charming twist on Pokémon’s battle formula, you see. And rediscovering all of your favourite Final Fantasy creatures in chibi form is simply adorable and more than reason enough to give this one a go.
Slay The Spire
Decisions made outside of Pokémon battles are as important as the choices made in them. Slay the Spire gets this. Building a deck with excellent synergy between cards requires the same thought process as constructing a winning Pokémon party. Creating powerful combinations and seeing a battle go as you planned is at the core of all card combat games, of course, but Slay the Spire is one of the best. It’s moreish, brilliant design hearkens back to Pokémon’s heady trading card days.
It offers up a less colourful adventure than Pokémon, and the journey up that titular spire is certainly more arduous. But even as you battle foes and overcome the game’s ever-changing obstacles, the sense of becoming stronger both through sheer weight of numbers and a deepening understanding of the power available to you can’t help but evoke the feelings that Nintendo’s classic conjures.
Digimon Masters Online
Back in the ‘90s, Pokémon overtook Digimon to become the ultra-successful Japanese media franchise it is today. But today, Digimon is the only one of the two that’s made the jump to PC.
Digimon Masters Online is an MMO where you train and evolve the eponymous creatures by battling other players. Digimon evolve into stronger forms with special attacks, similar to Pokémon, but Digimon Masters battles are real-time, not turn based. As such, you’ll need to keep your wits about you!
Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom’s enchanting characters and rich worldbuilding get you in the mood for an epic adventure. It’s like stepping out of your house for the first time in Pokémon’s Pallet town – a whole world waiting to be explored. The game uses a similar battle system to Tales of Vesperia, so you should feel right at home with its style of combat if you’re familiar with it. Ni No Kuni II also has a unique city-building tool, where you can help manage the work forces for Evan’s kingdom – a nice touch.
And then there are Ni No Kuni II’s Higgledies. They help your party during battles, can heal characters, attack enemies, and even shield the group with protective spells. They’re cute little companions who help you to win against impossible odds, and would fit perfectly into Pokémon’s next generation.
